Anxi is a small and mountainous county in southeastern Fujian Province. The county has a tea farming history dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907). Anxi currently produces 15,000 tons of oolong tea annually with its 16,700 acres of tea gardens. The word you will hear most often in Anxi is probably Tie Guan Yin (Iron Goddess tea), the name of a premium variety of Oolong tea. Anxi is hailed as the birthplace of this special tea. Most of the population of the county is involved in some aspect of tea cultivation.

Anxi Tea Garden 华祥苑茶庄
The best oolong tea is cultivated in the inner Anxi region, which has a higher altitude. As one of the most famous tea farms in Anxi, the Anxi Tea Garden sits at 800 meters above sea level, where the soil is slightly acidic, the relative humidity is higher than 78 percent, and the temperature stays continually between 16 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius.

 

 

Hong'en Rock 洪恩岩
About a 1.5-hour drive from the Anxi Tea Garden, Hong'en Rock is a popular national 3A tourist attraction in Anxi County.

 

Day by Day Itinerary

8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Depart from Xiamen to Hong’en Rock in Anxi
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Visit Hong’en Rock, a national 3A tourist attraction
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Drive to Anxi Tea Garden in Longjuan Township
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy organic food from local farms
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the Anxi Tea Garden and learn about tea culture while watching the production process of Tie Guan Yin. Visitors can participate in the tea picking and production process if it is the season.
4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Taste seasonal teas and watch the practice of "Kongfu" tea in the tea tasting room.
5 p.m. Drive back to Xiamen
