Sichuan Airline's Fuzhou-bound Flight 3U8997 was hit by flying bird on 18th, Aug.
An airplane from Sichuan to Fuzhou was delayed in the transfer station at Changsha because the plane hit a flying bird at an altitude of 5,100 meters yesterday, according to zjol.com.cn.
A man surnamed Ding, one of the passengers of Flight 3U8997, started from Chengdu at 7:40 am and arrived in Huanghua Airport in Changsha to transfer at 9:10 a.m. The transferred flight was scheduled to take off at 9:30 a.m. and arrived in Fuzhou Airport at 11:10 a.m. However, after the plane arrived in Changsha, Mr. Ding failed to be called for boarding again.
According to a photo shot by Mr. Zhou, there was a big hole in the front part of the plane which was said to be the reason for the flight delay.
The officials of the Sichuan Airline Company said the model of the plane is the Air Passenger 321, which can take more than 300 passengers.
Some passengers rescheduled their flight to Xiamen Airline Company and the rest, more than 100 stranded travelers, were still waiting in the nearby hotel of Huanghua Airport to board until yesterday afternoon.
When birds are flying in the opposite direction of an airplane, the power of a collision is considerable large due to the plane’s speed. For instance, the impact of a 1.8 kilogram bird on a plane flying 700 kilometers per hour is even greater than a cannonball.
An A320 airplane was forced to land on the Hudson River in
New York City after it was struck by a bird in January last year.
