Carrying Hard Cash in and out of China

Xiamen Custom officers confirm that as from 1st February 2007, the maximum cash amount (Chinese currency in RMB) a person can carry in and out of China is RMB20,000.


As for foreign currency, a person who carries more than USD5000 or equivalent into China must declare to the custom. Those who fail to do so may risk the difficulties of taking the currency out of China which exceeds USD5000. However, there is no limit in the amount of foreign cash that can be brought into China.
