The Wenzhou-Fuzhou high-speed railway was put into service last August
The Xiamen-Fuzhou high-speed railway is estimated to be open to traffic late March or early April, according to the Southeast Railway Corporation. By then, the railway will link the Fuzhou-Wenzhou railway, making it more convenient to travel between Xiamen and Wenzhou, a major city in east China's Zhejiang province.
The Xiamen-Fuzhou Railway was originally scheduled to put into service in November, 2009. However, owing to some unsolved problems of land requisition and relocation work, the plan has been rescheduled. In December, 2009, the railway was still in debugging stage.
Upon its full operation, it will only take about three hours to travel from Wenzhou to Xiamen. The railway will not only create a favorable condition for Wenzhou to join in the Economic Circle of Haixi (West side of the Taiwan Straits), but also will become the most convenient channel between the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle and the Haixi Economic Circle.
During the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, Wenzhou Nan Railway Station will increase its current 20 pairs of trains to 26 pairs per day to relieve the increasing travel demand of passengers.
The principal of Wenzhou Nan Railway Station said the current average transport capacity of the station is 5,000 passengers, the same as usual. "But it is estimated that up to 12,000 passengers will use the station on the peak day," he said.
