JAKARTA - The Thousand Islands administration has announce plans to insure visitors as part of efforts to attract more tourists.
Administration spokesman Purwoto said Wednesday that prospective visitors would be required to pay a token insurance premium when purchasing entrance tickets at any North Jakarta dock.
"We haven't yet decided how much that amount will be," Purwoto said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
"We're still discussing the whole insurance thing."
He added the planned coverage was aimed at giving visitors peace of mind, and hence boosting visitor numbers.
The islands' tourism industry is seeing a slight resurgence.
Last weekend, extended to three days because of a public holiday, an estimated 4,000 went to the islands, up from the usual 100-200 each week.
Purwoto said the administration was working on building a special dock for passengers heading to the islands.
